There are few matters which divide people’s opinions more than wind turbines, although everyone seems to agree that with an increasing population and a change in our climate (however temporary) we need to do something urgently. The question is how can we secure the energy supplies we need now and in the future without seriously impacting our energy bills and ruining the countryside.
There are pros and cons on every side - with a mountain of information to back them up which is not always unbiased and well-informed. One thing is clear: the Government is trying to back every horse with no clear idea of the outcome and, no matter what they say, with total disregard for the impact on residents and our natural environment. Hardly surprising therefore that Cornwall planners are approving unsuitable projects with abandon and are having a significant impact on our neighbourhood.
Public opinion changes rapidly when those who once approved of wind turbines experience the problems which can arise when they appear on their doorsteps. With over 1500 votes so far the poll being undertaken by CPRE (Council for the Preservation of Rural England) currently indicates a majority of two to one against the Government’s emphasis on wind power.
We have the means to influence how we want our neighbourhood to look through the Community Plan. Love wind turbines or hate them, your views are needed now.
Please tell us what you think in our online Wind Turbine Survey. It will only take a couple of minutes and no personal details will be given out.

MORE than 2,500 spectators packed Enys Parc on Saturday as St Agnes Rugby Club marked their 40th anniversary with a star-studded charity match.
Some of the biggest names in rugby spent the weekend in Cornwall as a St Agnes Barbarians side locked horns with a London Wasps Legends team, containing England World Cup winner Josh Lewsey, former Scotland international Kenny Logan, as well as a host of other stars from the game, including Fraser Waters, Cornish Pirates' coach Harvey Biljon and former Cornwall and Scotland lock. Andy Reed.
The game was organised thanks to the help of Lewsey, who owns a house in St Agnes. The village club made national headlines last season when Lewsey played for the Cornwall 2 side.
And Saturday's anniversary celebrations are sure to go down in club folklore after organisers hailed the day a resounding success, with more than £20,000 being raised, the proceeds being shared by the club and the ShelterBox charity.
